I began my DJ career whilst at Malory Senior School in London, assisting with a 5 day per week lunchtime disco to the 1,800
pupils who attended the school during the flower power days of the 1960's, progressing to social events for many sports clubs
that I was a member of.
On leaving school in 1971, I purchased my first mobile discotheque, known locally as 'The Harmony Sound Roadshow' and began
my long career playing to Youth Clubs, Family Parties and Weddings - before starting with the Gavin Breck Agency in Central
London the following year, and finally turning professional on 27th March 1973 with residencies at 'The Deacons', 'Sloopy's'
and a number of local dive bars.
From 1973 to 1979 I circulated around the London club scene working at the legendary 'Playboy Club' run by Victor Lownes,
the massive 'Empire Ballroom' in Leicester Square and worked alongside acts such as Dire Straits, Squeeze, Culture Club, The
Makers (soon to become Spandau Ballet), Adam & the Ants, The Boomtown Rats, The Sex Pistols, Mud, Suzi Quatro and many other
artists that were working the club scene at that time.
As the years progressed, I ventured into radio, with 'pirate' station Radio Jackie and London Hospitals Broadcasting Network,
where I first met European Hip-Hop 'Guru' Tim Westwood, before starting a number of International contracts in Europe and
Scandinavia with the 'International Discotheque & Entertainment Agency' run by Alan Lawrie.
My break into mainstream radio came with Plymouth Sound in 1977, and over the years included spells at Invicta Radio, Capital
Radio 194, BRMB, LWR and finally in 1989, head of music for Coast AM, where my vast knowledge in music came to the forefront.
I was also fortunate to become head of entertainment for Brands Hatch Motor Racing Circuit and later worked alongside World
Champion James Hunt at Marlboro McLaren.
The 1980's and early 1990's saw me settled in London with my family and become a director of the English Womens Football Association,
a council member of the London Football Association and Vice Chair of the Greenwich Sports Council whilst continuing to DJ,
and also writing regular articles for magazines in both the UK and USA.
During this time, I continued to work the London Scene, compering at events for David Bowie, an early appearance for Madonna,
plus a magical gig with U2 although I only briefly met them during the event. My radio career also offered the opportunity
to interview many household names, such as George Michael, Phil Collins, Cliff Richard and Kylie Minogue - although there
were a few 'not so magical' interviews with Olympic Cult Hero, Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards and Bad Manners front man Buster
Bloodvessel, who set my trousers on fire.
1988 became a memorable year when I had the privilege to work with a number of Motown Legends, and for someone who grew up
in the sixties to be on the same stage as Martha Reeves, The Supremes, Edwin Starr & Mary Wells every night for a month, was
incredible.
I became a founding member and trustee of South East Radio providing commentary and programming for the Biggin Hill International
Airshow, a fantastic annual event that also offered me a chance to realise a few of my dreams.
Life continued at a fast pace through the Millennium celebrations, still working alongside such quality acts as Ben E. King
& The Drifters, Blondie and The Swinging Blue Jeans (Yes, they're still going).
In 2005, my family and I re-located to sunny Western Australia, where I gained work through 'Power Music', and returned to
radio with Radio Fremantle 107.9fm.
May 2006 saw me return to working for myself, and my roadshow is picking up a good reputation within the Metro area. However,
the diversity of my career continues, with society weddings being blended with club appearances in Victoria Park, Northbridge,
Subiaco and Hillary's.
If you would like to find out what I'm doing now, then please feel free to contact
me. But to show you that I have a good sense of humour and can take a joke, I have added a section containing pictures
from my past 40 years as an entertainer, a job I hope I continue doing until the day I move on into the next world.
I have a job that I love doing and for that I shall be eternally grateful for every opportunity to keep going.
